You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike. Exits lead in all directions.
Effects[edit | edit source]
To get to the maze, someone with the power of the Minotaur must damage someone else with the Minotaur's axe. When that happens, both of them will be transported to the Maze. If one of those two combatants is not the player, the victor of the battle will be chosen randomly, and the survivor will instantly reappear in their original location.
Upon arrival in the Maze, the player will be alone. You must move around until you hear the sound of your enemy. Going in the direction of the sound will take you to your opponent. Both of you will be stuck in the maze until only one faction remains.
It is actually possible to have more than two combatants in the Maze. Reading a scroll of summoning is one way. Another is for Israfel to split while fighting in the Maze. Following the sound will only ever take you to one rogue.
Properties[edit | edit source]
- Arena (with all the properties of arenas)
- not faction-imposing (all combatants stay in their original factions)
- not challenged-group-inviting (if a member of a group is transported to the Maze, they go alone)
Strategy[edit | edit source]
If you get stuck in the maze, you may face a tough battle with no way out, but you have a chance to take a break and prepare for it. You might want to wait for timed penalties to expire, change your clothing or weapons, and read some scrolls.
When you're ready to fight, go in any direction at all. The maze is completely random and there's no point in mapping it. Just keep going until you hear the sound, then follow it.
You can retreat in the Maze, and you will be guaranteed to encounter only one other creature at a time when you return. No matter what direction you run in, it will always count as a retreat.
